Okey so recently I just fulfilled a student dream by climibing up the clock tower of my school. I have an incredibly pretty school you see, probably the prettiest one in the whole of Singapore, I daresay. It look symmetrical, and the colour combination of the building is really good. Of course, the highlight of this entire school is her centrepoint, otherwise the clock tower.Since I first set my eyes on this school 5 years ago, the thought of standing at the clock tower has been playing around in my mind. A year later, I am admitted into the school and ever since I've been working plans to sneak up there. What is school life if you don't break a couple school rules? Besides it is not as if there are any negative consequence to it--well...not any too negative consequence at least.
Thus the chance come when my friend told me that she knows the doorway, which then was fortunately unlocked then. It was at night, musical night. The interior of the space leading to the tower is rather dark, a bit taunting. But that isn't going to stop me, no way. So I groped my way up all the way till the tip, a emerged right above the dome. The view was lovely. You can see the little dots of lights littering the cityscape from up there. Small window lights from nearby houses, powerful laser beams from commercial buildings, and the rapid moving of buses and cars, defined by their yellow and red headlamps. All of those, in contrast against the starless and cloudy night sky. I could have kicked myself for not bringing a camera.
Anyway much to our disappointment, we were caught by some teachers. Apparently we underestimated how pronounced we actually were standing at such a bright place (oh yes they light the clock tower bright throughout the entire night). So no surprise there we were caught. Our concern is not ourselves though, not exactly. I mean at most we will get lectured or something. Tedious, but harmless mostly. But they are going to lock the door, and that is something to worry about. They did, in the end. It was vastly disappointing. My favourite place in the school and they locked it up! The teachers claimed that it is dangerous and all that. Have they ever considered that if they open up that area like everywhere else all those myth and curiosity of that place would be dispelled? No one would have to break rules or anything. It could have been just another hang out place in the school. But oh no, they have to lock it up. Ladders are dangerous, you can fall and break a leg. Yeah right, I would like to see how. We have an open rock-climbing wall---unsupervised mind you--in our school and I am pretty positive that probability of breaking legs up that thing is much much higher than climbing up the clock tower. So there.
I have no regrets getting caught or anything. We could have been more cautious and sensible. But once you are up there, everything else is forgotten and everything is worth it. Maybe I should be glad they didn't catch me on the fence (see that two white fences beside the clock?) because to get there you would have to scale the roof tiles, like a ninja. Hahahaha I think it would give the teachers a heart attack. God bless them. ;3;\
Now I just wish some staff will go up there for maintenance sort of stuff and forget to lock the door again. I want to get back there on grad night. And hopefully snatch a few photos this time round.
Chop chop~
